JCI MALTA LAUNCHES THE 6th EDITION OF THE OUTSTANDING YOUNG PERSON
(TOYP) AWARD 2010

There are young people in Malta that excel in their professions, strive to develop the community, gain achievements in the cultural field, or are role models for their peers.  Many of these people, however, often go unnoticed.  It is for this reason that Junior Chamber International Malta (JCI Malta) once again will be formally recognising those who excel in their chosen fields and exemplify the best attributes of Malta’s young people.

In collaboration with HSBC Bank Malta p.l.c. and KPMG Malta, JCI Malta is launching the sixth edition of The Outstanding Young Person (TOYP) Award.

The award, is aimed at giving deserved recognition, on a national as well as on an international level, to any individual who has made a difference in his or her community and beyond.

Launched locally in 2004, the TOYP Award has given recognition to a number of individuals within various fields. Young people such as Dr Simon Busuttil, Ms Marija Schranz, Ms Sylvana Brannon, Hon Dr Tonio Fenech and Eng Dr Nicholas Sammut have all been winners of previous TOYP Awards. In 2009, Dr Alan Deidun won the TOYP Award.

All eligible nominations are submitted to the Junior Chamber International TOYP Program and given the opportunity to be selected as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World, to be honoured during the 66th JCI World Congress in Brussels, Belgium. In 2009, Julian Azzopardi was one of the winners of the JCI Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World during the World Congress in Hammamet, Tunisia.

Young men and women between the ages of 18 and 40 may be nominated in one of ten categories for the TOYP honour:

1. Business, economic, and/or entrepreneurial accomplishment,
2. Political, legal and/or governmental affairs,
3. Academic leadership and/or accomplishment,
4. Cultural achievement,
5. Moral and/or environmental leadership,
6. Contribution to children’s welfare, world peace, and /or human rights,
7. Humanitarian and/or voluntary service,
8. Scientific and/or technological development,
9. Personal improvement and/or accomplishment,
10. Medical innovation.

JCI Malta encourages the general public to use this opportunity to reward the accomplishments of young deserving individuals. The required nomination form may be downloaded from the JCI Malta website on www.jci.org.mt. The form requires one to specify the category, for which the nominee is contending, and a brief on the achievements of the nominee and his/her contribution to society. The nominations will be reviewed by a committee of judges setup purposely for TOYP and will be shortlisted based on the nominee’s achievements in, or contributions to, the category indicated in the nomination.

The presentation of awards will be held during an awards night, during which JCI Malta will award winners for each of the 10 TOYP categories with one of these finalists also being declared as The Outstanding Young Person for 2010.

Closing date for the submission of nominations is the 10th October 2010. For further information, one may send an email to the TOYP Project Team on toyp@jci.org.mt or call +356 7926 6312.
