Following spending a day shadowing MEP candidate Michael Briguglio, Daniela Marotta recounts her experience and what she has learnt from it all!

“For this event, I had the honour to shadow Mr. Briguglio, joined by Jeremy Cardona, for a day.

The day started with a radio interview on NET FM. There I listened to the responses Mr. Briguglio gave. I was intrigued by the way in which he answered these questions, relying mostly on his own opinions and facts rather than following blindly a political idealogy.

Then we went to Ħal Far to attend the memorial of Lassana Cisse. His murder was a testimony for the cases of xenophobia and discrimination. As Martin Luther King Jr. said “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that”. The words of Her Eccellency Marie Louise Coleiro Preca and others were truly fitting for this terrible murder. I was astonished by the fact that Michael Briguglio did offer his help to one of the migrants, even though he understands little French.

Afterwards, we went to the Grand Hotel Excelsior in Floriana. There we met with Adrian Delia and other politicians and toured the hotel. The hotel is a representation of the service sector of the Maltese economy. This hotel welcomes hundreds of tourists that visit the Maltese Islands. Then after a quick lunch, we went on house visits in Gzira. Once again, I praise the support Mr.Briguglio was willing to give these residents.

Finally, we went for an event in Wied il-Ghajn with fellow politicians such as Adrian Delia, Peter Agius and Francis Zammit Dimech. There, these politicians spoke about their ambitions and plans if they were to be elected as MEPs.

This has been a great opportunity and an amazing experience. During this day, I have learned many things and I am sure that these skills will help me for the future (especially in the field of politics). I would like to thank JCI Malta, Michael Briguglio and Jeremy Cardona for this interesting experience.
